200 Years Later - Jane Austen's 'Sanditon' the pop/rock Musical
Fri 26th July 20:00
Anna is a song writer and lead singer in a girl band. In this narrated concert version of a proposed big-stage musical, she is played by Fern Teather supported by Sam Thurlow on drums, plus pianist/composer Vicky Clubb and three actor/musicians.
When her band realises that the inspiration for their YouTube hits ‘Opportunity’ and ‘Shallow’ was Charlotte Heywood in Austen’s last satirical novel, Anna takes her band on a musical journey through Sanditon’s plot and characters.
Written when she was dying, Austen hoped that her beginning might encourage one of her nieces and nephews to becomes a successful writer. Twenty eight years later, niece Anna Lefroy started a continuation of ‘Sanditon’ but was unable to finish it.
The musical is based on Chris Brindle’s filmed play completion of the two fragments, staged in Colchester in 2014.
